CORRECTION 10:42 P.M.
Yeah, um, the guy kicking his hat in the GIF below isn’t Rickie Fowler. It’s Spencer Levin at a 2011 tournament.
But Fowler still had a pretty bad day, no? He shot an 8-over 80 and is 14 shots off the pace.
We apologize for the truly idiotic mis-identification.
ORIGINAL POST
Hello, friends.
So things aren’t going well for Rickie Fowler in the first round of the Masters, even after he was anointed as “the best bet to pick up the green jacket” by a numbers guy who sits across from me and whose name rhymes with “Steel Beanberg.”
Take that, hat!
Fowler has been all over the place on Thursday, double-bogeying the par-4 first but then recording birdies on three of the next four holes to get to 1 under. But he gave a shot back with a bogey at 10 and then carded the triple-bogey 8 at 13 that sent him into paroxysms of hat-kicking rage.
Fowler found more trouble at the par-3 16th, hitting his tee shot into the water. He was able to save double bogey with a 10-footer and sits at 7 over par, 12 shots off the lead.
Bad first rounds at majors have been a thing for Fowler:
For Rickie Fowler, it’s bad opening rounds that are dooming his major chances. 73-81-72-73 in 1st rounds last year. +7 today.
