Shocking police bodycam footage shows a 3-year-old Florida girl and her great-grandmother being rescued after they were pinned underneath a car, according to officials.
Tampa police said a driver was backing out of a parking spot Sunday afternoon and did not see the 80-year-old pushing the tot in a stroller behind his vehicle.
He told cops he thought he’d hit a storm drain and only realized he had struck someone when his car wouldn’t move and he got out to take a look.
Police said a witness retrieved a hydraulic jack and lifted the 2006 Toyota Camry off the ground.
A group of good Samaritans told Tampa police Cpl. Lance Baker that they didn’t attempt to remove the victims because they feared causing further injury, according to the bodycam footage.
“They’re both breathing,” Baker can be heard saying.
The rescuers, including Tampa Fire Rescue acting Lt. John Fonte and Capt. Jonathan Pendino, managed to free the girl, who was moaning in pain, first by cutting her free of the stroller and carrying her to an awaiting ambulance.
They then pulled her unresponsive great-grandmother out from underneath the car’s carriage.
The child was listed in stable condition, while the elder victim suffered more serious injuries and remained in critical condition.
The driver was not impaired at the time of the accident and cops don’t expect to file charges.
